Sit-in in Wadi Halfa Ends After Partial Response to Demands

Follow-ups – Mashawir

Protesters in Wadi Halfa, northern Sudan, have ended a three-day sit-in sparked by the exclusion of the locality from the electricity supply schedule. The decision came after power services improved in recent hours.

The city had witnessed widespread protests starting on June 1st, continuing until last Thursday, in response to the power outages in an area that had been excluded from scheduled electricity distribution.

In a move reflecting a partial response to their demands, protesters removed the barricades they had placed on the main road linking Wadi Halfa to the Ashkeet border crossing with Egypt, allowing traffic to return to normal.

Leaders of the protest movement stated that the locality had seen stability in electricity supply in recent hours, prompting them to end the sit-in near the main road connecting Sudan and Egypt, east of the city.
