Abu Shouk displacement camp, home to hundreds of thousands north of El-Fasher city, is facing a severe drinking water crisis due to the shutdown of all water stations caused by a lack of fuel for diesel-powered pumps.According to the camp’s spokesperson, Mohammed Adam, the price of a barrel of gasoline has reached 16.8 million Sudanese pounds, equivalent to approximately 10,000 USD on the parallel market. The emergency committee and displaced people are unable to afford these costs, threatening the lives of thousands of civilians, with hunger and thirst devastating children, the elderly, and women in the camp.El-Fasher’s residents are enduring harsh and complex humanitarian conditions amid a severe shortage of basic goods, exacerbated by the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) ongoing siege of the city for over a year, in addition to continuous artillery shelling targeting displacement camps and residential neighborhoods.
