Sudan’s Attorney General, Fateh Tayfour, revealed the documentation of 1,392 cases of rape during the ongoing war that has lasted for more than two years.
Speaking during an oral briefing session of the Fact-Finding Committee on Sudan at the 59th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Tayfour urged the international community to designate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a terrorist organization, accusing them of committing crimes, violations, and crimes against humanity.
He also called on regional countries to cooperate with the national committee in accessing victims and witnesses, recovering stolen property, and rejecting any alternative external mechanisms, stressing the need to strengthen coordination between the Council and the national committee.
Tayfour stated that violations committed by the RSF have resulted in 28,613 deaths and 43,575 injuries. A total of 120,594 legal cases have been registered, with charges directed at the RSF in all but 270 cases, which involved army personnel. He added that 98 rape-related lawsuits were filed, and 1,392 rape cases have been documented.
The Attorney General accused the RSF of violating children’s rights by forcibly recruiting 9,000 children and deploying them to battlefields. He also noted that the RSF has brought in fighters from more than 12 countries. Investigations revealed that the RSF was responsible for 14,506 cases of enforced disappearance and detention, the execution of prisoners, and the discovery of 965 mass graves.
