Humanitarian Crisis and Reports of Famine Due to the Siege on Dilling

Follow-ups – Mashaweer

Military sources have reported that shelling by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu on the city of Dilling—South Kordofan’s second-largest city—resulted in the destruction of at least five homes, though no casualties were reported.

This week, the SPLM-N, backed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), attacked at least two areas in South Kordofan in an apparent attempt to isolate Kadugli from Dilling and reinstate the siege. However, the army announced that it had repelled the assault, inflicting significant losses in lives and military equipment on the attacking forces.

Since the early months of the conflict, Dilling has been under a suffocating siege due to the military map of control in South Kordofan, shared between the army, RSF, and SPLM-N.

The blockade has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, with reports emerging of famine caused by a critical shortage of food and medical supplies.

Previously, the army accused the SPLM-N and RSF of jointly killing at least 14 civilians during an attack on a town near Kadugli.

In South Kordofan, the RSF controls the towns of Al-Debeibat and Al-Hamadi, while the SPLM-N holds Kauda and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, the army retains control over major cities such as Kadugli and Dilling.
