Escalating Fighting in Kordofan Forces 500 Families to Flee to Northern Uganda

Follow-ups – Mashawir

Thousands of displaced people fleeing the Kordofan region have arrived in northern Uganda, escaping the ongoing military clashes and the worsening security and humanitarian situation. The refugees made the journey overland through South Sudan.

Those fleeing the horrors of armed conflict are facing severe humanitarian challenges due to a lack of international funding.

Humanitarian aid workers estimate that around 500 families have fled to Uganda following the military escalation in Kordofan. This comes after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of several towns, including An-Nuhud, Al-Hamadi, Al-Khuwai, and Al-Dibaybat, in May in South and West Kordofan. The crisis has also triggered large waves of internal displacement towards cities in North Kordofan.
