The United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan has warned that the scale of human suffering in the country continues to deepen.
According to the UN News platform on X, the mission is documenting a rise in the use of heavy weaponry in populated areas, as well as a sharp increase in sexual and gender-based violence.
UN experts also warned that the ongoing flow of arms into Sudan is significantly exacerbating the conflict, despite the severe consequences for civilians caught in the midst of the violence.
The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a closed-door session this Friday to receive two briefings on Sudan—one from the Chair of the UN Sanctions Committee on Sudan, South Korean Ambassador Joonkook Hwang, and another from the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra.
