The head of the Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance, El-Taher Hajar, has announced an initiative aimed at lifting the siege on the city of El Fasher. The plan calls for the withdrawal of both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from the city, allowing a joint security force to take over responsibility for ensuring stability and security—away from the influence of the main warring factions.
Hajar, a former member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, shared the details of the initiative in a post on his Facebook page. He described it as a joint effort with the Sudan Liberation Movement – Transitional Council led by El-Hadi Idris, and emphasized that it represents a serious attempt to spare El Fasher further violence and siege.
El Fasher has been under siege by the RSF for over a year, severely worsening the humanitarian and living conditions for its residents.
