Brussels Meeting Stresses Urgent Action to End War in Sudan

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The fourth consultative meeting aimed at enhancing coordination of peace initiatives in Sudan has agreed on the urgent need for collective and coordinated action to silence the guns in Sudan, restore the path toward civilian transition, and immediately address the needs of war-affected populations, particularly women and youth.

Participants in the advisory group meeting—hosted by the European Union in Brussels—reaffirmed their commitment to Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and the sovereignty of its people.

The group includes the United Nations, the European Union, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the League of Arab States, along with the countries sponsoring peace initiatives: the United Kingdom, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

According to an EU statement, the participants agreed that high-level attention and action remain crucial to address the ongoing war in Sudan. They warned that the cost of inaction extends beyond the worsening of what is already the world’s most severe humanitarian and displacement crisis—it also includes the urgent need for massive collective efforts to rebuild the country’s destroyed infrastructure.

In three focused working sessions, the participants discussed concrete pathways toward de-escalation, and inclusive civil and political dialogue. They also emphasized the importance of ensuring humanitarian access, upholding international humanitarian law, and addressed the broader security and development implications of the war for the region and beyond.
