IOM: Escalating Clashes in Kordofan Force Thousands of Families to Flee

By: Mashawir – Reports

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency, reported that approximately 3,200 families have been displaced from the village of Al-Qantour in Babanusa locality, West Kordofan State, due to clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The organization stated that these families have fled to various areas within the Al-Dheya locality in West Kordofan, noting that the situation in the region remains tense and rapidly evolving.

The RSF has launched repeated attacks on Babanusa since June 16, but the army successfully repelled all offensives, forcing the RSF to retreat to nearby villages surrounding the town.

The RSF currently controls most of West Kordofan, including the state capital Al-Fulah, and the towns of Al-Mujlad, Al-Mairam, Lagawa, Al-Khuwei, En Nahud, and Wad Banda, while the army retains control of Babanusa and some oil fields in the Heglig area.

The IOM also reported the displacement of 121 families from the village of Lamina in Shikan locality, North Kordofan State, due to worsening insecurity.
