The World Food Programme (WFP) in Sudan has warned of a looming humanitarian catastrophe, with approximately 300,000 civilians trapped in the city of El Fasher, facing hunger and escalating violence since April 2024.
WFP spokesperson in Sudan, Leni Kinzli, warned that the city’s economic and security conditions are nearing total collapse.
El Fasher hosts three major displacement camps, most notably Zamzam and Abu Shouk, which have sheltered tens of thousands of people since the initial Darfur conflict in 2004, in addition to newly displaced individuals during the current war.
