A nutrition assessment campaign has been launched in Tawila locality, North Darfur State, by the Patient Aid Fund Organization, in coordination with the State Ministry of Health and with support from UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP). The campaign aims to enable early detection of malnutrition among children and refer them to health centers for appropriate treatment and care.
According to Mohamed Ahmed Abdullah, Nutrition Coordinator at the Patient Aid Fund, the survey primarily targets displaced persons in camps and host communities in Tawila locality, with plans to expand the initiative to the broader North Darfur population.
Since the outbreak of conflict in El Fasher over a year ago, approximately 780,000 people have been displaced from the city and the nearby Zamzam displacement camp. Around half a million of them were displaced during April and May of this year following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) incursion into the Zamzam camp. Nearly 75% of the displaced have taken refuge in Tawila and its surrounding areas under dire humanitarian conditions, lacking the most basic necessities of life.
