Emergency Lawyers: RSF Committed Massacres in North Kordofan

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The Emergency Lawyers Committee in Sudan reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed massacres in five villages in North Kordofan State — Shaq Al-Noum, Umm Nabag, Kuja, Jakwa, and Mashaqa — involving the burning of people, shootings, and looting of property and livestock.

In a statement, the committee revealed that the RSF carried out a bloody massacre in Shaq Al-Noum village, killing over 200 civilians. Attacks on neighboring villages resulted in the deaths of at least 38 more people, while dozens of civilians were forcibly disappeared, and many others detained, with their whereabouts still unknown.

The statement also noted that victims in these villages were buried in mass graves due to the impossibility of holding individual funerals amidst ongoing shelling and gunfire.

The statement condemned the massacres, describing them as systematic, and held the RSF leadership fully responsible, considering these actions as crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity.

It further demanded accountability for all responsible individuals, from planners to perpetrators, and called on the United Nations and the international community to take urgent action to protect civilians and prevent further atrocities.
