UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk highlighted a series of alarming reports regarding the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) mobilization for an attack on El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.
In a statement, Türk expressed regret over the killing of dozens of civilians amid ongoing hostilities in the Kordofan region over the past week.
He also lamented the warring parties in Sudan’s blatant disregard for civilian lives and safety, more than two years into the conflict.
Türk urged all those with influence over the parties to take immediate action to halt this escalation and ensure both sides comply with their obligations under international law, particularly with respect to the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
