Hunger and Cholera Besiege “Tawila and Kalma” in Darfur

Updates – Mashawir

The General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugee Camps has announced a serious deterioration in the humanitarian and health situation in displacement areas of Darfur, especially in Kalma Camp and the Tawila area, due to a cholera outbreak and severe malnutrition.

Mohamed Yaqoub, Media Officer of the Civil Authority in areas controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid, revealed that 525 confirmed cases of cholera have been recorded in Tawila’s vicinity.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Human Rights has appealed to the international community, relevant parties, international organizations, and all partners to exert pressure to lift the siege on El Fasher in North Darfur State and deliver humanitarian aid to those trapped.

In a statement, the General Coordination of Displaced Camps said the situation has become extremely critical in Kalma and Tawila, where hunger and disease claim the lives of children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers every day amid severe shortages of drinking water, sanitation services, and medical care.

It also warned that the cholera outbreak in Tawila poses a major threat to hundreds of thousands of displaced people, especially during the rainy season and given the fragile health environment.
