Hundreds of Sudanese Refugees Left Without Shelter in Chad

Follow-ups – Mashawir

Dominique Hyde, Director of External Relations at the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), revealed that refugees arriving daily from Sudan—especially from the Darfur region—to Chad currently have no available shelter.

She added, “We cannot cut off water or sanitation services, but we are forced to make tough decisions when it comes to shelter.”

Hyde confirmed that UNHCR requires $10.6 billion for 2025 but has so far received only 23% of that amount. She stressed that with additional funding, the agency has the systems, partnerships, and expertise needed to quickly resume and scale up assistance.
