The Humanitarian Aid Committee, under the Supreme Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State, announced that around 1.6 million families — more than 6 million people — in the state are in urgent need of food assistance due to the deteriorating humanitarian situation caused by the war.
During its second meeting, chaired by Transitional Sovereignty Council member and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the army, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber, the Supreme Committee approved the distribution of 150,000 food baskets directly to affected households for a period of three months, pending the next phase of providing them with income-generating projects.
The committee emphasized the need to restore electricity across Khartoum State by the end of September and to provide temporary alternative premises to enable ministries to resume their operations until the committee completes its work and decisions are made on the repair and rehabilitation of official government buildings in the capital.
The meeting also reviewed reports on the rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, Khartoum Airport, environmental restoration issues, and the significant challenges facing the rehabilitation of Sudan’s capital after two years of destruction, looting, and infrastructure collapse in many vital sectors.
