Malnutrition Claims the Lives of Dozens of Children in East Darfur

Thirteen children have died in the Lagawa displacement camp in East Darfur State due to severe malnutrition and a critical shortage of food, in addition to the camp being subjected to attacks by armed groups.

The Sudan Doctors Network expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Lagawa camp, located in Ed Daein, the state capital. The camp shelters more than 7,000 displaced people, most of them women and children.

In a statement, the network said:

“In addition to the food shortage, the displaced are facing repeated attacks by armed groups, threatening the safety and security of the residents and worsening the humanitarian crisis.”
