The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reported that ongoing clashes in the Kordofan region have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, mass displacement, and the destruction of markets and hospitals.
In a statement, the ICRC noted that attacks on medical facilities have further crippled the already fragile healthcare system. Medical staff have been forced to flee, and many facilities have been severely damaged or completely destroyed.
The organization emphasized that this situation has left some areas cut off and deprived of basic services for several months.
The statement also highlighted a surge in displacement across North, South, and West Kordofan, with families repeatedly fleeing due to shifting frontlines. Supply routes have also been severely disrupted.
The Red Cross called on all parties to the conflict to comply with international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and markets.
