The Civilian Coalition of Revolutionary Forces (Samood), led by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, has launched a popular, diplomatic, and legal campaign to classify the now-dissolved National Congress Party and the Islamic Movement as terrorist organizations.
In a statement, the alliance affirmed its willingness to engage in dialogue with any Islamic group that rejects war and advocates for a peaceful resolution, pluralistic democracy, and a state based on equal citizenship.
The statement described the Islamic Movement’s project as rooted in exclusionary ideology that rejects pluralism and considers dissent as heresy.
It also pointed out that the United Nations Security Council had previously held the movement responsible for the attempted assassination of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in the early 1990s.
