Sudanese Doctors Launch Urgent Appeal to Save El Fasher Residents as Hunger Reaches Phase 3

Report – Mashawir

The Sudanese Doctors Network has issued an urgent appeal to local authorities and international organizations to save the residents of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, as hunger in the city has reached Phase 3.

El Fasher has been under a suffocating siege, artillery shelling, and repeated attacks for over a year, leading to an unprecedented shortage of basic goods and services, with prices increasing by 460% compared to other Sudanese states, according to the World Food Programme.

A statement from the network confirmed that hunger levels in the city have reached Phase 3 (Emergency) based on international food insecurity classifications, placing thousands of children and women at risk of death from starvation.

The statement further stressed that “thousands of families in El Fasher are suffering from severe shortages of food, medicine, and safe drinking water, amid a complete disruption of supplies due to the siege and the RSF’s blockade of humanitarian aid.”

The network appealed to the “global conscience” for immediate intervention to lift the siege on the city and to open safe corridors for the delivery of food, medicine, and water.
