Dispute over farmland leaves dead and injured in eastern Sudan

Follow-ups – Mashawir

A dispute over farmland has led to bloody clashes in the Al-Qadambaliya (Tarfah) area of the Rural Central locality in Gedaref State — a relatively safe region untouched by fighting — leaving five people dead, including an officer from the “Sudan Shield Forces,” and several others injured with varying degrees of wounds.

A statement from the state police confirmed that the situation had been brought under control, with a series of security and legal measures taken to contain tensions. The events began when residents blocked the national road linking Gedaref and Gezira States in protest against what they described as encroachments on their land.

The incidents have sparked widespread concern in the area over the spread of weapons and armed presence in regions previously considered safe — especially after the killing of the Sudan Shield Forces officer, accused of initiating gunfire at the protesters, which prompted the victims’ relatives to kill him and set his vehicle on fire.
