Hunger has forced large numbers of residents in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, to flee to other areas.
The city is under a suffocating siege amid what is described as the worst humanitarian conditions since the outbreak of the war, with an almost complete lack of food supplies and unprecedented price hikes.
According to residents, most of the displaced have moved north towards the Hajer Al-Jawad area and from there into South Sudan, while others have fled to North Kordofan and White Nile states. Additional groups have relocated to Dallami and Kartala in South Kordofan.
The residents noted that people in Kadugli are enduring extremely harsh conditions due to the siege-induced food shortages and are awaiting any sign of relief to end their months-long suffering.
They added that some residents have been forced to eat wild grass in the absence of any available food to stave off hunger.
The city currently has four charitable kitchens providing free meals in different neighborhoods, supported by donations from locals living abroad. The meals consist of boiled sorghum with beans.
