Sudan Begins Registration of Nationals in Libya for Voluntary Repatriation

Mashawir – Reports

The Sudanese Consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi has launched a voluntary repatriation initiative for thousands of Sudanese citizens who fled the war and are currently residing in several Libyan cities, including Kufra in the southeast of the country.

In a brief media statement, the Sudanese Consulate announced: “With the continuous improvement of security conditions in our country and the growing desire of citizens to return to Sudan, we are launching a registration process for those willing to return as a first step toward their repatriation.”

The Consulate urged Sudanese nationals in Libya to fill out a registration form through a designated online link. Citizens in a number of Libyan cities and regions, including Al Marj, Al Bayda, Shahhat, Al Qubbah, Derna, Tobruk, Brega, Ajdabiya, Al Wahat, Kufra, Sabha, and Jufra, are eligible to register.

It also warned against multiple registrations in different Libyan locations, noting that doing so would disqualify applicants from participating in the repatriation program.

At the end of July, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that 313,000 Sudanese had entered Libya since April 2023. The agency projected that the number of Sudanese fleeing into Libya could rise to 650,000 by the end of 2025, with an estimated 300 to 600 Sudanese arriving daily.
