Saudi Arabia Condemns Attack on World Food Programme Trucks in Sudan

Reports – Mashawir

Saudi Arabia condemned and denounced the targeting of three World Food Programme (WFP) trucks near the famine-stricken city of Mellit, in North Darfur, Sudan.

In a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom reaffirmed its absolute rejection of anything that threatens the safety and security of civilians and humanitarian and relief workers.

Saudi Arabia called on all Sudanese parties to abide by the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023, which includes commitments to protect civilians and ensure the security of humanitarian and relief corridors.

The statement stressed the importance of prioritizing the interests of the Sudanese people and sparing them the devastation of war and internal conflicts.

Gift Watansathorn, spokesperson for the WFP, told Agence France-Presse that three out of sixteen trucks in a convoy carrying life-saving food supplies caught fire and were damaged, while confirming that humanitarian staff remained safe.
