Documentation of Child Abductions and Sexual Violence Against Elderly Women in Sudan

Reports – Mashawir

The Horn of Africa Women’s Network (SIHA) reported that it has documented cases in Sudan involving the abduction of infants, as well as sexual violence and exploitation affecting women of all ages, including elderly women.

Adila Abu Bakr, SIHA’s Protection, Response, and Documentation Coordinator, stated that the network recorded incidents of violence targeting individuals ranging in age from one year to 80 years old, including gang rape, sexual slavery, and the abduction of children as young as six months old.

She noted that since the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023 up until this August, the organization has documented over 400 cases of sexual violence against women.

Adila further revealed the existence of detention facilities for women in Khartoum, Gezira, and El Fasher in North Darfur State, including some located inside the premises of medical supply centers and humanitarian organizations.

She added that the organization continues to receive daily reports of sexual violations, averaging one to two cases, particularly in areas of North Darfur and North Kordofan, due to the ongoing conflict.
