Heavy Rains and Flash Floods Sweep Sudanese States, Causing Major Damage

Reports – Mashawir

Torrential rains and flash floods have swept through large areas of Khartoum, River Nile, Sennar, and parts of the Northern State, leaving fatalities and causing power outages in parts of River Nile and the Red Sea State.

According to the Sudan Doctors’ Network, the floods and heavy rains caused the collapse of 154 homes in River Nile State, particularly in the Shendi, Damer, and Atbara localities.

The network reported that over 1,000 people have been affected by the disaster and are in urgent need of shelter, food, and emergency health services.

It called on local authorities and humanitarian organizations to act swiftly to deliver aid, warning of health risks posed by displacement and loss of shelter amid the spread of disease outbreaks.

In Kassala State, floods cut off the Wagar–Hadalia road, after having surrounded 26 villages in the North Delta locality last week.

Dozens of villages in northern Kassala remain isolated for the second consecutive week due to the Gash River’s change of course, forcing residents to use boats to reach main roads.
