Torrential rains and flash floods that swept across large parts of Sudan have left 42 people dead, 31 injured, and caused the collapse of more than 4,000 homes.
Authorities evacuated residents trapped by the flooding of a river in the eastern part of the country.
Major General Qirshi Hussein, Assistant Director General of Civil Defense for Emergency and Disaster Management, told Asharq Al-Awsat that 42 people were killed by the heavy rains that struck the capital and other states, resulting in 31 injuries and damage to 4,883 homes.
He explained that “civil defense forces have drained accumulated rainwater in several areas of the country, and water levels of the main Nile River have remained stable despite the influx of floodwaters.”
