Sudanese Authorities Continue Relocating Refugees from Khartoum

Mashawir – Reports

The Sudanese Commission for Refugees, under the Ministry of Interior, has relocated a new group of refugees from the capital, Khartoum, to White Nile State, which borders South Sudan.

The commission stated that the latest group included 69 families in addition to 96 individuals, who were transported in 10 open trucks and 4 buses, with an additional bus on standby.

Abdullah Idris Leman, Deputy Commissioner for Refugees, oversaw the relocation of South Sudanese refugees from the Bantiu camp in Jabal Awliya locality, south of Khartoum.

White Nile State currently hosts over 412,000 of the total 662,000 South Sudanese refugees in Sudan. Most reside in 10 camps, including Khor Al-Waral, Um Sangour, and Al-Jam’iya, while the remainder live in urban areas.

The commission added that the relocation operations are being carried out in coordination with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) through registration and protection phases, despite ongoing rainfall.

It also noted that it has been providing humanitarian services to refugees for 60 years, from their arrival at reception centers to their transfer to permanent camps.
