Clashes erupted in the market of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to others.
For days, the city’s market has been witnessing security tensions following a dispute between a soldier and a merchant, which escalated after the soldier killed the merchant. The incident quickly spiraled into riots and looting in the market, leading to the deaths of four merchants and a soldier, in addition to several injuries.
According to local residents, the market was closed, and satellite internet services (Starlink) were cut off after the intervention of the regional military division commander, who deployed additional forces to restore security within the market.
Recurring cash shortages in Kadugli have triggered multiple instances of unrest in recent months due to the significant disparity in goods prices between cash payments and electronic banking applications.
