Local rescue teams in Tarsin Village, Darfur Region, which was hit on Monday by a landslide that claimed the lives of more than a thousand people, have so far managed to recover 90 bodies from the site of the landslide. Efforts continue to rescue survivors trapped under the rubble.
According to local sources, the process of retrieving the bodies from under the debris faces extreme difficulties, as it is being carried out using traditional methods. All nearby villages have been mobilized to assist the devastated village.
This horrific humanitarian disaster has prompted widespread Sudanese solidarity, both officially and publicly, transcending the political divisions caused by the war. Everyone has called for urgent aid to be provided to those affected. The Transitional Sovereignty Council in Port Sudan expressed condolences for the victims of the tragedy, announcing in a statement its commitment to mobilize all possible resources to provide support and relief to those affected by this painful disaster.
The Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasiss), through its official spokesperson Alaa Al-Din Naqd, declared Tarsin Village a disaster and emergency zone, calling on all regional and international humanitarian organizations to intervene and provide assistance to the residents.
