Life-Saving Aid Delivered to Over 1,000 People in Disaster-Stricken Tarsin Village

Reports – Mashawir

As part of ongoing efforts to assist residents of Tarsin, the village devastated by a landslide in Jebel Marra, Darfur, several humanitarian organizations have managed to deliver life-saving assistance over the past two weeks to more than 1,000 people, while assessing needs in the village.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that a coordination group meeting reviewed the findings of the assessment and response mission, the needs identified, and the aid efforts currently underway.

A report from the United Nations Satellite Center indicated that about 10 houses were destroyed and farmland was damaged in the incident, while the death toll remains unconfirmed.

Last week, three sudden landslides struck the remote mountain village of Tarsin in Sudan’s Darfur region, burying homes, livestock, and hundreds of families under mud.

The latest figures from local authorities and Save the Children reported the recovery of 373 bodies, most of them children. However, it is believed the actual number is far higher and may exceed 1,000.
