“Sumood” Alliance: We Fully Support the Quartet’s Plan and Call on Warring Parties to Immediately Commit to It

Reports – Mashawir

The Civil Democratic Alliance of the Forces of the Revolution, “Sumood”, welcomed the statement issued by the foreign ministers of the Quartet group—the United States of America, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates—which presented a clear action plan to end the conflict in Sudan.

In a statement, the Alliance affirmed: “We declare our full support for this plan and call on the warring parties to immediately commit to it.”

The statement emphasized Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, reiterated that there is no military solution to the conflict, and stressed the need for the warring parties to allow unimpeded humanitarian access. It further underlined that Sudan’s political future must be determined by its people, free from the control of the warring factions.

The plan outlined a roadmap to end the conflict, starting with a three-month humanitarian truce to guarantee humanitarian access, leading to a permanent ceasefire, followed by a nine-month political process culminating in peace and broad Sudanese consensus that would establish a civilian authority with wide popular support. It also affirmed that Sudan’s future must not be shaped by extremist elements of the Muslim Brotherhood—the National Congress Party, the Islamic Movement, and their affiliates—whom the statement described as fueling violence and instability in the region. The plan also called on all external actors to refrain from exacerbating the conflict or supporting any of the warring parties.

The statement stressed the need to confront cross-border security threats posed by terrorist and extremist organizations and to address the conditions that enable their expansion.

“As the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Forces of the Revolution, Sumood, we commend this strong position of the Quartet countries. We call on the warring parties, as well as regional and international actors, to coordinate effectively to ensure the implementation of this vision. This will bring an end to the suffering of the Sudanese people, achieve a just and lasting peace, make this criminal war the last in Sudan’s history, and lead to security and stability for the country and its regional and international environment.”
