Emergency Lawyers: The Quartet Statement Signals International Recognition of Civilian Suffering and the Humanitarian Catastrophe

Reports – Mashawir

The Emergency Lawyers group welcomed the joint statement issued by the Quartet (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America) regarding the restoration of peace and security in Sudan.

In a statement, the group noted that this step is a positive indication of the international community’s recognition of the suffering of civilians and the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Sudan. It added that it represents a push toward halting the bloodshed and finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.

It continued: “The Quartet’s affirmation of Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, and its emphasis on the primacy of a political solution and an inclusive civilian transition, constitute an important foundation for achieving lasting stability and protecting citizens’ rights.”

The statement also praised the call for an urgent humanitarian truce and the guarantee of unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, which would alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The Emergency Lawyers group urged all Sudanese parties to seriously engage with this initiative and participate responsibly in a political process that places the interests of the nation and its citizens above all other considerations, opening the way for a safe and stable Sudan under civilian leadership.
