Ten Sudanese nationals drowned when a boat carrying irregular migrants sank off the Greek coast, after departing from the city of Tobruk in eastern Libya on its way to Europe.
According to reports shared by community groups on social media, the victims were from the villages of Al-Asaylat, Al-Sudaira, Al-Quwaiz, Dabkheit, and Al-Daltya.
Sources confirmed that a list circulated by some activists claiming 51 victims was inaccurate, stressing that the confirmed number so far is only 10.
Many Sudanese have resorted to irregular migration to Australia, Europe, Canada, and the United States in search of better living conditions amid the devastating impacts of war and economic collapse.
