The recent escalation and spread of military operations across several areas of Kordofan — particularly in Nuba, Umm Sumayma, Kazgeil, Umm Qirfa, Al-Mazroub, and Bara in North Kordofan State — have forced dozens of families to flee toward East and South Darfur. These areas had previously served as a temporary refuge for people displaced from Khartoum.
As a result, a second wave of displacement in less than a year has now pushed people into new towns and regions.
One displaced person who arrived in the city of El Daein said that most of the families reaching Darfur had originally fled from Khartoum months ago and settled temporarily in parts of North Kordofan. However, with fighting expanding into those areas, they were forced to flee again as the region became unsafe to live in.
Activists warned that intensifying clashes could drive further displacement and worsen the already dire humanitarian situation, especially in the absence of any signs of de-escalation or a ceasefire.
