“500 Cholera Deaths in Darfur Within Three Months”

Reports – Mashawir

The General Coordination of IDP and Refugee Camps in Darfur announced that cholera deaths in the region have risen to 500, after 17 new deaths were recorded yesterday (Tuesday).

Spokesperson Adam Regal stated that 135 new cholera cases were reported in Darfur yesterday (Tuesday).

He added that the cumulative number of infections since the outbreak in June has reached 12,061 cases, including 500 deaths.

According to Regal, the most affected areas are Jebel Marra and Zalingei in Central Darfur, Tawila in North Darfur, Nyala and the displacement camps in South Darfur—where the disease has spread at unprecedented levels—as well as Khazan Jadid in East Darfur.

He noted that most of the areas affected by epidemics and diseases are suffering from shortages of IV fluids. However, humanitarian organizations, local volunteers, emergency rooms, and local authorities are making tremendous efforts to combat the outbreak.
