WFP Reaffirms Inability to Deliver Aid to El Fasher

Reports – Mashawir

The World Food Programme (WFP) has once again confirmed its inability to deliver any food assistance to the city of El Fasher for more than a year due to the siege imposed on it, which has worsened the city’s humanitarian crisis.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the program explained that families trapped inside El Fasher have come to rely almost entirely on cash transfers in the absence of basic food supplies, making the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid even more pressing.

WFP affirmed that it has obtained all the necessary approvals from the government’s Humanitarian Aid Commission, but it is still awaiting confirmation from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to allow humanitarian convoys to pass and enter the city.

Several UN agencies had previously warned of an imminent famine threatening the city, which is witnessing a near-total collapse of its infrastructure and local markets, where the prices of goods and food items have soared by almost 500 percent compared to other cities in the country.
