Khartoum Mobilizes Residents to Combat Deadly Epidemics

Reports – Mashawir

The Khartoum State Government has declared a state of full mobilization of official bodies, communities, and organizations to confront the widespread outbreak of dengue fever and malaria. The plan includes intensified awareness campaigns alongside various spraying operations to combat disease vectors.

The state’s Higher Emergency and Crisis Management Committee decided to step up efforts to control the fevers through a plan that involves engaging citizens and raising awareness on how to prevent infection, mainly by eliminating mosquito breeding sites. The plan also stresses the need to ensure the availability of tests and treatments at hospitals and health centers.

According to the latest surveillance and information reports, the Federal Health Emergency Operations Center recorded 1,367 cholera cases, including 52 deaths; and 1,523 dengue fever cases with 3 deaths, across five states: North, Central, and East Darfur, as well as South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

The weekly meeting of the Emergency Center reviewed the status of health promotion activities, environmental health interventions, food safety monitoring, medical supplies, quarantine measures, and the latest updates on epidemic diseases in the states.

The report showed that Khartoum has recorded the highest rates of dengue fever infections, while 12 measles cases without deaths were reported in North Darfur. It also indicated 64 cases of viral hepatitis, with no deaths, in Gezira State.
