UN Secretary-General António Guterres has renewed his call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in El Fasher, the protection of civilians, and the safe and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid without obstacles.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Guterres expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating situation in El Fasher.

He warned of growing dangers facing the civilians trapped in the area, who are paying the heaviest price in the war, stressing the urgent need for an immediate halt to the fighting.

The UN Secretary-General urged the parties to swiftly engage in genuine dialogue to achieve an immediate cessation of hostilities and de-escalation of violence, including in El Fasher, and emphasized the need to return to the negotiating table to find a sustainable solution to the conflict.
