Autumn Emergency Committee Warns of Rising Nile Levels and Potential Risks

Mashawir – Reports

The Autumn and Flood Emergency Committee in Merowe locality has warned of expected increases in Nile water levels downstream of the dam along both banks, based on administrative and technical assessments.

In a statement, the committee urged citizens to take necessary precautionary measures to avoid potential risks caused by rising waters.

Sudan has experienced above-average rainfall this season, which has led to floods and torrents in some areas, resulting in loss of lives and property, as well as the spread of diseases.

The Merowe Dam, which began operating in 2009 with a power generation capacity of about 1,250 megawatts, is considered one of the country’s largest water projects.
