Follow-ups – Mashawir

Sudan’s Ministry of Irrigation announced that river water levels have reached flood stage in six states, warning that levels are expected to continue rising throughout this week despite a decrease in the inflow of the Blue Nile.

In a statement, the ministry said: “River levels have reached flood stage in the states of Blue Nile, Sennar, Al Jazirah, Khartoum, River Nile, and White Nile.”

It explained that the Wad Al-Ays station in Sennar’s Singa recorded a level of 17.5 meters, just 15 centimeters below flood stage, while the Wad Madani station in Al Jazirah measured 19.91 meters, which is already flood stage. The Khartoum station recorded 17.33 meters, exceeding its flood stage of 16.50 meters, while the Shendi station reached 17.96 meters, surpassing its flood threshold of 17.60 meters.

According to the statement, the Atbara station recorded 15.66 meters, close to its flood mark of 15.78 meters, while the Merowe station stood at 18.10 meters, below its flood level of 19.22 meters. The Dongola station measured 14.90 meters, with flood stage occurring at 15.22 meters.

The ministry predicted that river levels would continue rising along all banks of the Nile this week. It added that the inflow of the Blue Nile had decreased to 633 million cubic meters, while discharge from Roseires Dam dropped to 540 million cubic meters. By contrast, discharge from Sennar Dam rose to 706 million cubic meters, discharge from Jebel Aulia Dam exceeded 134 million cubic meters, and discharge from Merowe Dam surpassed 750 million cubic meters.
