The Emergency Chambers Council of North Darfur has confirmed the continued operation of charitable kitchens and communal food centers (Takkayas) in the city of El-Fasher, with support from the council.
The council also reaffirmed its ongoing backing for the emergency and rapid response project within El-Fasher to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
In a statement, the council welcomed the visit of UN Humanitarian Coordinator Denise Brown to the Tawila area, which has become a refuge for thousands of displaced people forcibly uprooted from El-Fasher, Zamzam, nearby camps, and surrounding villages as a result of attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies.
The statement described Brown’s visit as a glimmer of hope amid the catastrophic humanitarian disaster threatening the lives of millions in the region.
The North Darfur Emergency Chambers Council also invited the UN coordinator to conduct a field tour along the road connecting Tawila, Zamzam, and El-Fasher, so she could witness firsthand the grim reality of unburied bodies of women and children scattered along the route, stretching across wide areas east of Tawila — a stark testament to the atrocities committed and a crucial first step toward accountability and breaking the wall of silence.
