Floods of the Nile Cause Destruction of Agricultural Crops

Reports – Mashawir

Flooding from the Blue Nile has destroyed vast areas of agricultural land. Farmers from Sudan’s Sennar State confirmed that the floods wiped out crops of bananas, lemons, and mangoes, particularly in areas located along the Blue Nile.

The Director of Civil Defense in Sennar State stated that the floods of the Blue Nile caused the deaths of eight people in the state and injured several others, in addition to completely or partially destroying about 700 homes.

Mubarak Abdel Rahman Yaqub, the Director of Agriculture, noted that the floods have severely affected agricultural operations, damaging over 2,000 feddans spread across 176 farms that produce vegetables and horticultural products such as leafy greens, mangoes, citrus fruits, and bananas in the southern Gezira area. This situation directly impacts farmers and the country’s food security.

In River Nile State, the Nile’s water levels have risen significantly, leading to the collapse of homes and infrastructure.
