The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee has strongly condemned what it described as a heinous crime committed against a six-year-old girl — a pupil at Al-Doha Model Private School in the city of El-Obeid, North Kordofan State — last Thursday by one of the school’s teachers, who teaches Islamic Education.
The committee described the crime as one that “shakes the human conscience and contradicts all moral, religious, and professional values.”
In a statement issued today (Thursday), the committee said that what happened cannot be considered merely an “individual act,” but rather a clear violation of the sanctity of childhood and a flagrant breach of the Education Charter.
The statement added that the incident exposes the extent of the moral decay that some educational institutions can descend into when conscience is absent and financial interests are prioritized over the dignity and safety of students.
The committee expressed full solidarity with the victim’s family and called on judicial authorities to ensure justice without leniency or delay. It also condemned the school administration’s silence and its attempt to cover up the crime “out of fear for its reputation and financial interests,” describing such behavior as “disgraceful and contrary to educational and professional values.”
The Teachers’ Committee urged the federal and North Kordofan state ministries of education to take urgent measures, including temporarily closing the school until investigations are completed, immediately investigating the school administration and anyone involved in the cover-up, and reviewing the licensing and teacher recruitment mechanisms of private schools.
The committee stressed that protecting pupils is an absolute priority that must never be compromised, warning that silence over such crimes amounts to implicit complicity in their commission.
