Babiker Faisal, a leading figure in the Civil Democratic Alliance of Sudan’s Revolutionary Forces “Sumood”, announced that the two warring parties in Sudan have agreed to implement the roadmap proposed by the Quartet Mechanism on September 12 to help end the Sudanese crisis.
In a post on Facebook, Faisal expressed his expectation that the Quartet Mechanism will, during its upcoming meeting in Washington later this month, determine specific timelines and mechanisms for enforcing a humanitarian ceasefire, following the green light given by both conflicting sides to move forward with the plan.
He emphasized that any bilateral deal based on power-sharing between the warring factions would not bring a lasting end to the war or achieve sustainable peace.
Faisal further explained that the true test of the roadmap’s success lies in the political process, which must address the root causes of Sudan’s crisis.
