Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with UK National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell to discuss the rapidly evolving situation in Sudan, particularly in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.
In a statement, the ministry said Abdelatty stressed to Powell the importance of concerted efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Sudan and reach a comprehensive political settlement. He also underscored the need to preserve Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions.
On the Palestinian issue, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry added that Abdelatty and Powell discussed preparations for Egypt’s upcoming hosting of the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza in November. Abdelatty emphasized the vital role of the international community in actively participating in the conference to help end the suffering of the Palestinian people.
