The Sudanese Doctors Network reported that its field teams documented the deaths of 23 children between October 20 and November 20 in the cities of Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan State, due to severe acute malnutrition and shortages of essential supplies. These conditions arise from the blockade imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, which has prevented the entry of food and medicine and endangered the lives of thousands of civilians.
The network said in a statement that these deaths represent a grave warning highlighting the scale of the escalating humanitarian crisis in the state.
It strongly condemned the continued blockade, which has led to the collapse of health services and the obstruction of humanitarian aid delivery—acts that constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law and of children’s rights to survival and protection.
The network urged the United Nations and regional and international humanitarian organizations to act urgently to open safe corridors and deliver immediate relief without delay. It warned that the continuation of the current situation risks triggering a widespread health catastrophe unless immediate measures are taken to lift the blockade and ensure the flow of food and medicine, so that this tragedy does not become a recurring reality in other parts of Sudan.
