Umma Party: The Army’s Options Have Become Limited in Light of Military Developments

Mashawir – Reports

Mubarak Al-Fadil Al-Mahdi, leader of the Umma Party and head of the “National Consensus Alliance,” described the U.S. three-track plan as a derivative version of the “Manama Agreement,” previously signed on January 20 of last year between Transitional Sovereignty Council member and deputy army commander, Lt. Gen. Shams Al-Din Al-Kabbashi, and the RSF’s deputy commander, Abdelrahim Hamdan Dagalo.

Regarding the possibility of the army accepting the U.S. proposal, Al-Mahdi explained that the army and its commander, General Al-Burhan, now have limited options, particularly given the recent developments on the battlefield.

He added: “I believe the army’s only option to achieve peace is to negotiate based on the terms of the Manama Agreement and the Quad plan. We support the U.S. plan because it fully aligns with what we have consistently called for—implementing the Manama Agreement.”

The Umma Party leader noted that “the army commander’s reservations center on Article Seven of the Manama Agreement, which concerns rebuilding a national, professional army. His concerns relate specifically to the clause calling for the removal of the army commander, the RSF commander, and the Islamic Movement from power, despite his lack of objection to reforming the army and integrating others as outlined in the Quad plan, the U.S. proposal, and the Manama Agreement.”
