Sudanese Doctors Call on the International Community to Shoulder Its Responsibilities Toward Civilians in Babanusa
Mashawir – Reports
The Sudanese Doctors Network expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the city of Babanusa in West Kordofan State, where the fate of dozens of families and children remains unknown amid renewed clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement, the network noted that these clashes are increasing the risks faced by civilians, particularly women and children who had previously sought refuge inside the headquarters of the 22nd Infantry Division after the RSF overran the city more than a year ago.
The statement pointed to video clips published by individuals affiliated with the RSF, showing a large number of women and children inside the division’s buildings during the period when the RSF controlled the city, appearing in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.
The network called for ensuring the safety of these civilians and relocating them to safe areas away from the front lines, stressing that they must not be detained or questioned based on the affiliations of their relatives. It also urged the opening of safe corridors for their evacuation and the provision of urgent humanitarian assistance.
The statement further called on the international community to assume its responsibilities toward the civilians in Babanusa, provide necessary humanitarian support, and pressure RSF leaders to remove civilians from conflict zones and ensure their protection
