Norway to Host Talks on the Sudan Crisis

Reports – Mashawir

Norway is expected to host a new round of talks called for by a broad spectrum of civilian political forces, aiming to establish a clear set of criteria for restoring civilian rule once the fighting stops.

Meanwhile, the United States is moving toward imposing a new and wide-ranging package of sanctions on both parties to the war in Sudan, amid stalled ceasefire efforts and continued clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to informed diplomatic sources quoted by The Guardian.

This step comes after months of attempts by U.S. envoy Mossad Bolus to persuade both sides to accept a ceasefire—efforts that have not succeeded so far.

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington had begun working to end the war in Sudan, following a direct request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to intervene and push the political process forward.

According to The Guardian, the warring parties have been informed that it is highly likely Trump will employ a much broader set of strict sanctions against groups he believes are obstructing the ceasefire.
